Channel Cities and World of Ærnth History/Timeline
History of the World of Ærnth is a touchy thing, being defined by the winners of battles and the rulers of lands. There are several different "reckonings" from which times and ages are figured, each with its own starting point and reasoning. The dominant (as reckoned here) form is figured by the reckoning of the Isle of Stars, due to their being widely recognized as the "Masters of Lore" within the World of Ærnth.
The "First Age" or Age of Legends starting from the estimate (estimated based off of ancient legends as passed down from generation to generation prior to the Isle of Stars compiling a recorded history of the world) of the earliest years. Due to the start date not being known, it was decided by the Loremasters of the Isle of Stars that these dates would count down (backwards) from the start of the "Second Age" (the founding of the Isle of Stars and their compiling a recorded history of the world).
The "Second Age", also known as the “Age of Enlightenment” defined as starting at the time of the founding of the Isle of Stars.
The "Third Age", also known as the "Modern" Age, Age of Expansion, or Age of Trade; this current age is defined as starting at the time of the founding of the Ruglund Empire, due to its effects on the history of the world since that time, despite its fall long ago.
The following time line designates everything in terms of the year followed by the Age Designation (as in F.A. for First Age, S.A. for Second Age, and T.A. for Third Age). The year designations for the Second Age are reckoned from the founding of the Isle of Stars. The First Age time periods are designated as negative years (as indicated by a “-“ in front of the number) dating back from the invention of written words (as best as can be surmised from the limited records and by piecing together the accounts collected by the Monks or Masters of Lore from the Isle of Stars).
It must also be recognized that history is not always the same from one culture to another or from one region to another, even though two cultures or regions may have had an involvement in some historical event, their perspectives of these events are often different, and can even be contrary to one another. In these cases, who is correct??? Having an interest in history (as a hobby, so no I’m not an expert) I have seen many times, different perspectives of the same historical event. Therefore the following timeline has been developed over the years with that in mind. As such, there will be a few contradictions and differences as well as a few incorrect events. So please keep in mind that many of what look like mistakes are in fact intentional errors. Also note that this is only a rough guideline and as such there will be a lot of smaller and less significant events that occur outside of what is covered below.
